Misconceptions About Hearing Aids

Advances in hearing aid technology have made it possible to successfully fit with a hearing aid virtually anyone with hearing loss. In fact, today, hearing aid use is less dependent upon the type and degree of the hearing loss, but more dependent on an individual's desire to wear an aid. Yet, many misconceptions about hearing aids remain. These include:

  • NOT TRUE - Persons with nerve deafness cannot use a hearing aid.
  • NOT TRUE - Persons with hearing loss in one ear do not need an aid.
  • NOT TRUE - Persons who can hear speech but not understand what is being said cannot benefit from a hearing aid.
  • NOT TRUE - Persons who do not like loud noises cannot use a hearing aid.
  • NOT TRUE - Hearing aids make everything louder not just speech.
